Slovakian Kolachi
Description
Some work involved but so very, very worth it.
- 6 cups flour
- 1 lg pkg fresh yeast
- 1 tsp margarine (300 ml oil)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups warm milk
- 3 eggs
Filling:
- 1/2 cup icing sugar + granulated sugar to make 3 cups
- 1 cup cocoa
- Pre heat oven to 375F
- Scald milk and set aside to cool. Melt margarine and set aside to cool.
- While waiting sift dry ingredients in a large bowl. Make a crater in the center of dry ingredients. Dissolve yeast in warm milk. Pour into center along with margarine
- Break 3 eggs. Mix thoroughly. Cover with a white towel or cloth. Set in a warm place and let rise about 2 hours, until double in bulk.
- Remove dough to floured board. Knead dough. Divide into 6 parts. Let set and raise about 15 minutes
- Meanwhile, break an egg into a cup. Beat well. Roll each piece of dough out, rub on oil. Spread filling: 1 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup icing sugar, add white sugar to about 3 cups. Bring ends in and roll up. Place in oiled glass dish and brush with beaten egg. Bake for about 30 minutes or until rolls are brown.
