Yeah, I made it :-) and it's so easy!
INGREDIENTS:
2 - 3 14.5 oz cans of stewed tomatoes. I took it another step and now use from Safeway, their brand of Fire Roasted Salsa in a 14.5 oz can. I know Safeway isn't everywhere so Walmart carries their brand called Fire Roasted Salsa Style Diced Tomatoes. Both of which are basically stewed tomatoes with chiles and spices already in them. There are so many stewed tomatoes out there, find one that YOU like and go for it!
1/4 tsp of salt (or salt to your liking)
1 - 2 garlic cloves diced
3 - 4 green onions diced
4 - 5 roasted, peeled and diced HOT Hatch Green Chiles (Yes you can use other chiles, Hatch is a local favorite in NM) OR you can use Medium, mild or Extra Hot.
1 bunch of Cilantro chopped fine
DIRECTIONS:
Combine the above and enjoy. Now wasn't that easy? Once you have your garlic, onions, chiles, cilantro all diced and chopped, add the cans of stewed tomatoes, stir and eat. Now, of course you can make changes. Don't have green chiles? Use jalapeno peppers, Anaheim peppers, serrano peppers or? The recipe above is a proven favorite among family and friends, so give it a try, then adjust!
Now, in the pictures above you will see a pair of herb scissors. OMG a genius created these! Makes chopping up cilantro soooo much easier! No more slicing and chopping cilantro for me! And they make it easy to slice up the green onions right up in uniform size slices too.
Note: If you happen to get your salsa too hot, just add another can of tomatoes. It won't cool off the peppers, but it will dilute it enough to enjoy your salsa without buring the hell out of your mouth :-)
